Candidate Guide to taking PeopleClues Attitudes and Engagement Assessments

IMPORTANT! Please read this carefully before you start

Q: Why am I being asked to take a recruitment assessment?

People who are good at the type of job you are applying for have certain behaviours and attitudes that are often difficult to assess in an interview. If the assessment shows you have behaviours and attitudes that would suit our workplace, it is more likely that you may be considered suitable for the job.

However, recruitment decisions are not based on this part of the recruitment process alone.

Q: Are there right or wrong answers?

No. This is not an exam with a ‘Pass’ or ‘Fail’ score. The way to get the most out of it is to:

  1. Answer honestly. Do not try to ‘second guess’ what you think we are looking for

  2. Don’t dwell on questions. The first answer that comes into your head is the best one

  3. Relax. The assessment is sensitive to exaggeration or attempts to disguise true attitudes and behaviours, so it is important you give us a picture of the ‘true you’.

Q: What assessments will I be taking today?

You will be taking an ‘Attitudes’ assessment – You will be asked to read a series of statements on the screen and respond with how true it is of your behaviours and attitudes. It should take about 5-8 minutes to complete, but it is not timed. An example is:

You will also be asked to take an ‘Engagement’ assessment, which is focused on your experiences with your current (or most recent) job role and line manager. The question format is the same as above.

Q: Are the assessments fair?

All applicants’ results are scored using a respected peer-reviewed system which has been tested for reliability and predictive validity.

Q: What if I need help or experience a technical problem?

The assessments can be taken using a computer, keyboard and mouse or touchscreen tablet. Please advise a member of staff if you have any concerns about your ability to do this due to disability or medical condition, or should you experience any difficulties or technical problems during the assessment. Paper copies are available.

Q: Is my data secure? What will you use it for and who will see it?

This assessment system does not require any personally identifiable data beyond your first and family name and email address. It complies fully with all relevant data protection regulations. Data you provide will not be passed on to or used by a third party and is stored securely. If you are not successful the data is destroyed after 12 months.
